The Child Left in Me

Music and lyrics by Claudia Anderson

I woke up today with a faint sort of longing
Something deep in a dream
Rose from my pillow to still hear it calling
Forget all your sorrows between

The child in me she was ever so hopeful
Each day is so full when you’re small
When the little ones laugh–oh, I still want to feel it
When the little ones cry–break their fall

Gone are the days when the years spread before us
Gone are our paths clear and free
The roads we have chosen have few open branches
But the young touch the child left in me

Now my friends share their pictures of summer and birthdays
Moms and dads fear their world is spinning so fast
They freeze all these moments, make time stop forever
If nobody breathes we can make childhood last

Is it true we’re destined for more after this
Is it true we’re bound for a future of bliss
If I soar in my dream, I’m an eagle above
Keeping watch o’er my children with love

Gone are the days when the years spread before us
Gone are our paths clear and free
The roads we have chosen have few open branches
But the young touch the child left in me
The young touch the child left in me
The young touch the child left in me
